Old motels and their wonderful vintage signs have always been a favorite subject to both photograph and print. Most of them, this one included, are places that are nice to look at, but you wouldn’t want to stay there.

Now that we are racking up titles, the “How ‘Bout Them National Champions!” on the sign is evergreen, and can apply to any championship year you like.

I came up with the design for this painting because I was frustrated by how bad the t-shirt selections have been after Georgia last two National Championships. And while this painting is not actually available as a t-shirt that you might wear every now and then, it is available as a limited edition print that you can enjoy every day.

If I’m in Athens, there’s a fairly good chance, close to 100%, that I’ll be eating at T-Stand. That’s what the pros call it. Not “The Taco Stand”. Not “The T-Stand”. Just “T-Stand”.

They actually opened an Atlanta location fifteen or so years ago. It didn’t work. It’s an Athens thing…about as Athens as it gets.

It doesn’t get much sweeter than Georgia’s epic victory over Alabama for the 2021 National Championship. Stetson leading the late charge, Ringo’s pick six to seal the deal, breaking a long title drought, as Dawg fans in Indy and all across the land were united in a collective joy that may be matched on future occasions, but never excelled.

I can’t think of a better place to start than with this painting of Vince Dooley, made just a few days after his passing. This was easily my favorite of the Game Day Paintings made for The Poor Man’s Game Notes last year. And yes, I will making them again this year for every game. After all, we went 15-0 last year, so I’m not about to change our luck!
